“Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
(Exodus 3:10-11)
The other day, I was contemplating how often we, as God’s children, give God all the reasons we cannot do what He has asked of us. Coming up with excuses is too often our go to response. As I thought about this, I could not remember one time in the Bible where an excuse was a good thing or pleasing to God. Yes, there were appeals, but that was not telling God why they could not obey, it was simply asking Him to reconsider. When Moses was told to go to Egypt, he began giving excuses about why he should not have to go; God did not take any of his excuses but said, “Who made man’s mouth.”1 Then He gave again His instructions for Moses to follow and informed him that He had already provided what was needed.
God does not care for excuses. He is God, and we should trust that He knows all, sees all, and knows what He is doing when He asks us to be a part of His plan. So stop making excuses and just do it.
