Psalm 101:3 “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.”
In life, the enemy tries to throw things on us or at us that damage our integrity, but we have a choice of allowing it to cling to us or pushing it away. I was in a college class where we talked about how there were two types of viruses, and one of them clung to the cell and went for a ride. As the body worked and copied its natural cells the virus would be copied on all the new cells as well. Unknowingly, the body would create an entire army of viruses that would attack it, because it did not detect and remove what was clinging onto the unsuspecting cells.
The book of 1 Peter tells us to be vigilant because the enemy prowls around like a lion seeking whom he may devour.1 The enemy searches for opportunities to cling on and devour. In the verse above, King David chooses to not let the stealthy viruses of sin go undetected. He makes the decision to not allow anything evil to cling to his soul. Instead, he takes every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, as we are instructed to do in 2 Corinthians.2 We too must cast off these things that try to cling to us and recognize them for what they are.
Let me encourage you to not be overcome by evil, but over come evil with good.3 We have been given a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.4 So, let us use it and choose not to allow the evils in this world to cling to us. It is your choice, choose well.
