I was weeding the garden this past weekend, and I saw an important lesson in my life. As Christians we are each given a garden to grow for the kingdom of God in which we are to produce a harvest. As with all gardens, there is a tendency to allow weeds in our lives. These weeds are distractions, sins, and things that take away from our growth for God. Sometimes we put them there and sometimes the enemy puts them there. But no matter how they got there, they need to be removed.
So the Holy Spirit comes and begins to pull out these weeds. As I was physically uprooting weeds, the dirt would crack and rip apart. In addition, I looked and saw how ugly the garden appeared when I was done. It stood bare and scant. When the Holy Spirit removes the weeds in our lives, it may not feel good because there is a pulling and ripping up of things that have taken root. On top of that, it does not look pretty either. But it is for the best.
Here is the truth: God removes the weeds in our lives so the good produce we are growing can live. Those weeds of distraction and sin steel the nutrients and life of the plant God intends for us to grow. He removes it so we can have a healthy and lushes harvest for the Kingdom. Don’t be discouraged by a weeded garden. Give it time, like a fresh haircut, it will look better in a week or two.
Is God pulling some weeds out of your garden? Trust Him through the process; know it is for the best, that good will come from it, and that it will look better in His perfect time.
