“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8).
Have you ever found a bug in your bed, some little insect that crawled its way there? Perhaps there was a spider, an ant, or (inward cringe) a cockroach! Immediately, we pull out the bug spray, drive to the nearest store and buy all the bug-bombs, repellants, and anti-something’s that exist. We call pest-control, strip the bed of all blankets, sheets, and pillow covers, and give the room a cleaning like its never seen.
That’s what we should do when we see sin in our lives. We should go to great extents to clean ourselves, by drawing near to Jesus, and exterminate the sin.
This verse in James tells us to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts. We cannot dwell with sin and be the man or woman God wants us to be. To embrace sin is like to welcome in all the creepy crawly bugs imaginable into your bed. We should be as disgusted with sin as with bugs under under the sheets.
Let me encourage you: do not let the bug of sin remain. Get away from it; clean it out, and call on God, the exterminator of sin. Draw near to Him. He is our deliverer.
Your sister in Christ,
Charisa
