Laundry with Jesus

I was studying 1 Timothy 2 with a friend. After study we talked about what I had done on my day off, and I mentioned I did laundry with Jesus in the afternoon. We laughed and smiled at how it sounded. But we also realized the importance of “doing the laundry with Jesus.”
It is the little things in life that often get us wrapped up and busy. But what if we were to take those little things, those moments, and spend them with Jesus?

In 1 Timothy 2:1, Paul mentions four important principles of prayer: supplications, prayer in relationship to worship, intercessions, and thanksgiving.

  • Supplication is like bringing our needs before God. This is our personal “Lord, I need help.” (For examples, read 1 Samuel 1:10 and Psalm 143:1-4)
  • Prayer in worship is a constant remembrance and praise of who God is. It is a time of focusing on Him. (Read Psalm 136)
  • Intercession is like when you go on behalf of someone else. We lift another’s need to God and ask Him to help a friend or neighbor. (Read 2 Kings 4:20-37)
  • Thanksgiving is a continual state of mind and action where we reflect on what He has done. We are to daily look for little and big things to thank God for. We thank Him when someone is healed. And we are to thank Him for the little things like water for laundry. (Read 1 Chronicles 16:8-13)

How different would our lives look if we spent every waking moment with our mind and hearts focused on God? Think how more pleasant our time would be.

Now, I believe it is vitally important to set time aside to read the Bible and spend time solely with Christ. But we can also learn the value of simply doing laundry with Jesus.

In Christ,
Charisa

P.S.
Here are practical ways of how laundry can be used in prayer: 1) Talk to the Lord while you wash or fold; tell Him your needs. 2) Praise Him for His provision. 3) Pray over whoever will wear or use that laundry. 4) And thank Him for the ability to be doing laundry.

One response to “Laundry with Jesus”

  1. I smiled as I read this because I don’t think “I will talk to Jesus/God as I…”, but I find myself doing it. I may talk about some worry on my mind as I mow the grass or thank Him for a cooling breeze He sends as I mow in the heat; I may be asking Him for guidance about something as I make the bed or laugh out loud and thank Him for a funny looking cloud as I drive. Remind me to tell you what happened one day while making my bed as I was talking to Jesus about healing for my aunt and asked him for a sign He heard my prayers.
