Do you know Pollyanna and her glad game? She constantly tried to find something to be glad about. Well, for me it is the Thankful Game.
We were sitting outside one sunny afternoon, my siblings and I. The day had been one of those off days – things just did not feel right, depressing thoughts kept coming. So, to help our minds focus on the good and lift our spirits, we started saying things we were thankful for. We went around the group and everyone had to pick something new; no copying. As we continued to play and say what we were thankful for, from the sun and flowers to family and life experiences, the day brightened inside of us. There was no longer that heaviness that weighed so many down. It had been lifted. God does that for us when we focus on Him. When we spend time thanking Him, even for the little things, our spirits grow lighter. We no longer view the day in darkness but in light.
Scripture tells us that in all things we are to give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18). So when you get down or are having a hard time pause for a moment, and tell God the things you are thankful for. It will help reset your mind and lighten the day. God is good all the time – we just need to look and give thanks.
May the Lord brighten your day, and may you see what He has done around you.
