Being Like David

Have you ever wanted to be like David taking on Goliath? Or even wished you had a fraction of that boldness and faith in God?

Then I want to encourage you to first be like David the shepherd boy.

Before David ever fights Goliath, he was in the fields with the sheep, caring for and loving them. David tells King Saul of how he protected his father’s sheep from a lion and a bear: “I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.”1
Like David, we are each given a responsibility – to take care of what God has already given us. David had to be responsible for the sheep: caring for their needs, attending to the hurt, leading the strays back to the herd, watering them, feeding them, walking beside them, and tending them before he ever faced or heard of Goliath. He was faithful with what God had already entrusted to his care, and then he was made bold for God.

Luke tells us, “he who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much…”2 We need to prove ourselves faithful in the little things, in the day-to-day things, first. Then when the time comes to face Goliath, we can stand faithfully and boldly when much is required of us.

Your sister in Christ,
Charisa
