5 Minute Anxieties

The dog was in the back seat of my little blue car. We were cruising down the highway, and then I realized, he could not hold still for five minutes straight. One minute he was on this side, the next he was facing the other side. The poor little guy was fidgeting because he was not sure where I was taking him. I was not his owner, just the “dog sitter.” Do not be alarmed, the owner had asked me to come get him and take him to my house while they were gone.

As we were driving, he was very good and did not bark, but he whimpered almost the whole way home. At one point he did lay down, but before five minutes had passed, he was up again. The poor dog did not know where we were going, and although I had driven him places safely before, he still did not trust me to take care of him. It reminded me of how we, as humans, react when we are worried about something. We are checking on it every five minutes. We are not at peace, and we cannot rest. But God does not want us to be anxious like the little dog I watched. He says to our souls, “Peace be still. I’ve got this. I know where we are going, and I will take you safely there. I have never left you.”

Scripture tells us to cast our anxieties on Christ for He cares for us. We should not be like this adorable little dog, but we should remember all the times God has been faithful. If He brought us through once, He will do it again.

So, the next time God is taking you somewhere, and you get fidgety, be still and trust what God is doing and where He is going.
