“I want my pink Bible with my name on it!” I shouted to the thoughts that were trying their level best to takes steps and rush God, taking my mind off Him and His will for my life.
When I was ten years old, we were taken shopping and two of my sisters had those beautiful Precious Moments pink Bibles with their names on them. Well on that shopping trip I saw a hardback Precious Moments Bible. As I picked it up and told Mom that it was what I wanted to buy with my money, she told me that she was going to get me one like the girls’ with my name on it if I would wait. But as was and sometimes still is the typical Moriah, I did not want to wait. So, Mom allowed me to purchase that hardbacked nameless Bible. Many, many years went by before I would receive a Bible with my name on it.
I did love that hardback Bible, but as I got older, I learned the lesson of waiting and the value of having something with my name on it. God has a perfect plan for everyone of us if we will follow and trust Him. But like, Mom, God also allows us to have a choice. He may even tell us that He has something better, but still allows us to decide if we will trust Him and wait, or if we (like I did) will take matters into our own hands and purchase what we want (a generic Precious Moments Bible). We call this God’s permissive Will, it is where He allows us to make decisions because He wants all to choose, but in giving us all a choice, He also knows that we can choose to go our own way. He will allow us to go our own ways, but in His faithfulness and goodness He calls to us to draw us back to His perfect will for our lives.
As I shouted the very first statement of this Blog, I was using it figuratively to remind myself to wait for what God has for me, His plan just for me. I did not want to mess up again, but this time on a decision much greater and more permanent than a Precious Moments Bible. My heart still cried out for what I wanted, rushing God’s timing, and perhaps even settling for good instead of God’s best, but my soul knew better. God’s best will come with my name on it and I choose to wait for what God will provide because it is His best and comes personally addressed to me.
I don’t know what your “little pink Bible” moment is in your life, but may I please encourage you to trust God enough to wait on His timing. Wait for the Bible with your name on it. Trust God; He has always been faithful and has never failed. And He never will! Wait for Him and He will direct your paths. Next time you are tempted to rush God’s timing like I was, say out loud, “I want my pink Bible with my name on it!”
