God’s Provision From The Beginning

All throughout the Bible God’s people have been called to remember the works of God.  I want to walk us down memory lane and look at the character of God all the way back to the beginning.  Genesis 1:1-27 shows us God’s provision for His creations.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 … God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. [b]So the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 Then God said, “Let there be a [c]firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” … 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so…

11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. …13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; … 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living [e]creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the [f]firmament of the heavens.” … 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [g]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Let’s break this down: God created water first, one of the things that all creation needs to survive.  Then He created light.  Both creating the first day and creating another essential for survival before He created any living thing.  God created heaven and prepared all the boundaries of water and land creating a home before anything began to live in it.

God did all the prep work first.  Look at this: He already created the water, light, and land that would be needed to sustain vegetation.  By creating plants before animals, He provided the food that all living creatures need.

Then He created times and seasons and then on the fifth day, He filled His creation with fish and birds, having already created a space for them to live.  And on the sixth day, He brough forth the animals before the people.  By the time we got here, at His word, everything you and I would need had already been provided for us.  That is the God we serve!

We were the last creation because God was preparing a place for us, and He would not bring us to it until it was all the way ready for us.

He provided ALL the needs of His creations before they ever were made!  Why do we worry and fuss so much over if God will be faithful and provide?  Because we are humans and do not realize what Psalms 104 points out that all the animals look to God for their food and are content with what He provides.

Do not worry about tomorrow.  If God cares for the birds and the lilies, how much more will He care for you!

Remember this: God always provides; He is always working; and He knows what we need before we know.  Trust God and His timing today.
